Scriptural Evangelical Lutheran Church welcomes you in Jesus’ Name! We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) in fellowship with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) located in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
As our name implies our focus is on the Holy Scriptures. Our Lord Jesus once prayed for the disciples saying, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” We believe that the Holy Scriptures are true. In them God has revealed His plan for each of us in this life and for eternity. The rebellion of our first parents brought sin and death into this world. God sent His only Son Jesus that we might have abundant life now and eternal life to come.
We proclaim Christ crucified holding to the truth that “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
We gather weekly on Sunday mornings for Sunday School and Bible class at 9:00 a.m. and for worship at 10:00 a.m.
We gather around God’s Word and the Lord’s Supper that we might be strengthened in the knowledge of our Savior Jesus Christ and be empowered to live out our daily lives with His strength and share His life changing word with others.
Scriptural Evangelical Lutheran Church was formed in 1969 when members of a neighboring Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Congregation who sought to be faithful to God’s Word began meeting at Vandeven Hall in Cape Giradeau. On June 18, 1970 the congregation moved to its present location on County Road 635 moving into a newly constructed basement.
The sanctuary built above the basement was dedicated on June 18, 1978. Land adjoining the church was purchased for a cemetery and a large cross was erected in the cemetery in 1972.
